Dorothy M. Tucker, Ph.D.

Dorothy M. Tucker, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist, a police psychologist, and a consulting professor with Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center.   In her work, she places special emphasis on the needs of cultural/ethnic populations, women, children, families and organizations.

Dr. Tucker has a Bachelors Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University, a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Toledo, and Doctors of Philosophy in Counselor Education and School Psychology from The Ohio State University, and in Clinical/Organizational Psychology from the California School of Psychology, Los Angeles.

Previous and current consultation clients include Hughes Corporation, DuPont, Los Angeles Police Department, Department of Water and Power, Rebuild LA, Social Security Administration, Rocketdyne, Capitol Records, Whirlpool, MetroMedia Television, Department of the Army, Los Angeles Unified School District, City of Richmond, California, Southern California Headstart Programs and the American Psychological Association NIGMS Project, New World Foundation, Legal Services Corporation, General Electric, Department of Defense, Peace Corps, U. S. Agency for International Development/the Government of Uganda, Korve, California POST Commission, Miami/Miami Beach Police Departments, University of Alabama, and a number of other public and private-sector organizations.

As a member of the governing board of the California Psychological Association, Dr. Tucker is past chair the Public Interest Division and is a member of the Forensic Committee. She is past president of the California Psychological Association, the Foundation of the State Bar of California, the National Conference of Bar Foundations of the American Bar Association, past member of the governing board of the State Bar of California, and past president of Section VI, Society of Clinical Psychology of the American Psychological Association. She is Treasurer of the Section IV Psychology of Women of the Society of Clinical Psychology Division She previously served as president of the United Negro College Fund, the Building and Safety Appeals Board (Los Angeles, Inglewood) the Board of Psychology, the Westside Women’s Center and the California Coordinating Committee for International Women’s Year. and chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee of Division 18 Section on Police and Public Safety. She is Chair of the Board of Directors of Kedren Community Mental Health Center. She has also held leadership positions with the California Project, United Way, Southern California Association of Black Psychologists, NTL Institute, and the American Psychological Association.

She is the 2001 recipient of the Mentor Award from the Los Angeles Women’s Foundation, the 1998 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Bowling Green State University, the Helen Marguiles Mehr and Silver Psi Awards from the California Psychological Association, in addition to numerous awards from the California state legislature and the community.

Active in the community, Dr. Tucker is a founding member of Black Women’s Forum and One Hundred Black Women. She is a founding member and past president of Families In New Directions/Crenshaw Consortium, Inc., a community based organization that provides mental health, educational, and mentoring services to residents in Los Angeles. She is also a member of Judicial Council’s Access and Fairness Advisory Committee, the Center for Judicial Education and Research’s Fairness Education Committee, and the State Bar of California’s Lawyer Assistance Program.
